Chinese Angelica ( Radix Angelicae Sinensis
) is native to the high altitude mountains in China. The yellowish brown root of the plant is harvested in autumn and is a well-known Traditional Chinese medicine which has been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of conditions.
Angelica has an earthy, woody flavor that is slightly bitter and sweet. It is mainly used to relieve anaemic symptoms which helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and eases menstrual pain. It is also used to ease other kinds of pain associated with cold limbs or pain resulting from physical injuries due to poor blood circulation, and heartburn.
